The way to a more productive, more inspired, more joyful life is getting enough sleep.

-Arianna Huffington

Sleep is one of the roots of how you perform and function. So why not start with giving yourself the gift of a better night’s sleep? The holiday season has us running hither and yon: Christmas light parades, church services, kids’ programs, parties with friends or family, bell ringing, and service projects for others. There are presents to be purchased, made, wrapped, and tucked sweetly under the tree. Food needs purchased and cooked. In order to do all these things with a smile on our faces, we humans need sleep!

One way to prepare your body to sleep is to turn off your electronics ONE hour before bedtime. Why? Our electronic devices emit blue light (click the link to read more) which disrupts the release of melatonin which is a hormone that sends messages to our body that it is time to sleep. If you take the time to turn off your electronics, you will have an easier time catchings some zzz’s. Maybe you are human that needs something to do before your head of to dreamland, perhaps you could try reading a wonderful book like these below:

I often find myself reaching for my latest crochet project in order to destress and prepare myself for slumber. Crocheting or knitting is proven to be a great way to chill yourself out! I taught myself how to crochet about 20 years ago through books, articles, and videos. Now when I need to learn a new pattern, there is usually a video that goes with it! You will just have to watch the video and then work on your project . . . remember you don’t want that blue light to disrupt your sleep! The bonus of working on a crochet project this time of year is that it also helps you keep warm . . . it is a win-win for everyone.
