Vision Board Inspiration: Tips and Ideas for Your Board

A vision, or action, board is a tool that you can use to make your dreams a reality. I think that it is better to call it an action board because I think you have to work at your dreams to make them happen. The work take time, but in the end your dream will be realized that it will mean so much more in the end.

This little board becomes a constant reminder of your desires, values, and future plans. When you look at your vision board, it helps you to focus your energy on your future goals for yourself or your family.

Creating a vision/action board is something that bring great joy and not much effort! You can make a digital board to print out or create a board that you cut everything out and glue it down. Do what works best for you.

First, gather all of your supplies: visual aids. These could be in the form of pictures, favorite quotes, positive affirmations, or things that represent your dreams. These can include your dream house, a picture of your ideal career, someone(s) who represents your future partner (and/or future family). Think big . . . the sky is the limit!

Then find a base like a blank canvas or some cardboard . . . you can skip this step if you choose to create a digital vision/action board. Also collect goodies to add decorative flair to your awesome project: markers, bows, stickers, glitter, or even inspirational pins.

Now it is time to get crafty! Arrange and rearrange your items until you get a layout that you love. Take a moment to admire your work . . . step back and go have a snack. Then come back and see if you still love it. Ask yourself this important question: “Does this represent everything I want in my life?” Your vision/action board should speak to your soul . . . that is when you know that you can glue it down!

Then post it somewhere in your living space where you will see it everyday multiple times a day. The more times you see it, the more focus you will have which means the more actions you will take to make those dreams come true. Don’t worry, this vision/action board can be easily updated or changed. Feel free to make one as often as you want as long as you are taking steps towards making your dreams a reality! This will be especially helpful once you realize one of your dreams . . .change that out for a new one. This way you will continually keep working towards your goals and one day, you just might get the life you’ve always imagined!

To start off this post there is my current vision board. Let’s walk through it so you can get a better idea of what a “real life” vision board looks like! Starting in the upper left hand corner, I have a picture of an herb garden. It is my dream to someday have a working medicinal herb garden on our property . . . in the front yard. I have started working towards this dream by converting our side yard into a cottage garden- it needs work, namely I need to figure out how to get the grass out of it- but it is a start! Mid top is a sweater pattern that I hope to knit for myself someday. I love sweaters in the winter, I love this lavender color and I LOVE this pattern minus the pearls because farm life does not allow for bits and bobs on clothing! Top right is a picture of a family walking towards a barn. This represents my dream of having my kids (and God willing) and their families working together on the family farm. Present day, it might not be feasible for the girls and Sam to have their own land with a home, but they are more than welcome to build their home on a piece of ours. The middle right picture is a dairy cow. Now that I have had dairy goats, I want to be able to raise and milk a dairy cow. I currently have 2 cows that “could be” a dairy cow but they either have not been milked before or have a bad quarter or two and are just plain pig headed! One of the cows is super sweet and gentle but she is massive and makes me nervous because she is not goat sized! We are currently on the lookout but the weather is not cooperating with us as it is going to be over 100 degrees for the next couple of weeks. The bottom left hand corner is an outdoor kitchen. I love living in Oklahoma, but the Okie Summers are something else. The hot temps and high humidity make cooking inside a little too moist and hot so we want to build an outdoor kitchen right off our backyard. We want to have our grill, smoker, Blackstone, sink, and counter that we have collected along with adding an outdoor oven and canning area to cook it our little hearts content! Middle bottom row is a picture of a lady lifting weights. Now that I have come into middle age, I need to start lifting weights on a regular basis to keep the muscle and bone density that I have plus change up my body composition. My goal is to at a minimum lift two to three times a week and some HIIT or plyometrics along with doing some yoga and walking with a weighted vest the rest of the week. Bottom left is a picture of a truck- then I can chunk in the animal feed, transport goats, or a boat. I mean we do this already with our Sequoia, but the truck would be much easier to clean out! The middle left is the ultimate: my own apothecary stocked with my medicinal herb products that I can use to help my clients ease their health issues. I have a wee small apothecary with some dried herbs, a few tinctures, and some oils that I started for salves. It would also have a spot where I can have an office to meet with clients in person or on the interwebs! Well, there you have it! My vision/action board out in the universe!

Let me know below if you have created a vision/action board and if you are brave share yours with me! I would love to see what you are working on in your life.
